When we got to location it turned out that we could not use the lighting that the club has to offer because it was all broken. So we had to get creative. How do you light a club full of people dancing with no club lights??
Lighting for music videos is its own art. It’s a matter of being creative and knowing exactly what look you want. lighting is king! SET BUILDING IS KING! That is what separates our low budget videos from the big budget ones.
We had him dress like a spy and added colors similar to the TV Show to add extra subtext to the music video. It was like a fun little Easter egg for anyone that noticed. But one of the most fun effects that I created came straight from the intro and I’m going to explain to you guys how I did it.
This effect was inspired by the video game FORTNITE. I met an artist that made a song inspired by the game so he wanted his music video to have a vibe similar to the video game so we stuck to pink, purple, and blue for the lighting of the whole thing. Then, there is this drink in the game called “Slurp Juice” and when you are hurt it regenerates your health for you.
I’ve never done drugs before but from how people talk it sounds as though they see things in bright vibrant colors and slowed down when they are high. Before I create the video I look for references and inspiration. A reference/influence that I use when I am going to make a trippy video is looking is the scene from “Vertigo” where he is in a bad dream.
