When we got to location it turned out that we could not use the lighting that the club has to offer because it was all broken. So we had to get creative. How do you light a club full of people dancing with no club lights??
Lighting for music videos is its own art. It's a matter of being creative and knowing exactly what look you want. lighting is king! SET BUILDING IS KING! That is what separates our low budget videos from the big budget ones.
This started off as a simple visual effects test but then I posted it to my Instagram and a lot of people started to give it attention. All I wanted to really do was integrate a CG car into a real life scene. I had been playing so much Fortnite this past weekend that for some odd reason, everything around me made me feel like I was in a battle royal.
This movie felt kind of like a really long episode of Black Mirror. At first, watching the film I felt like it was going to be a very generic Sci-Fi film. It's just a guy trying to find his wife's killer set in the future. And I couldn't stop thinking about how they couldn't hire Tom Hardy so they got a look alike. I changed my mind about that though after we met STEM.
We had him dress like a spy and added colors similar to the TV Show to add extra subtext to the music video. It was like a fun little Easter egg for anyone that noticed. But one of the most fun effects that I created came straight from the intro and I’m going to explain to you guys how I did it.
